Account Director

Who we are looking for

Who you are

You have over 8 years’ experience, some from an agency environment, with direct responsibility for account management. You’ll be confident in today’s changing environment; marketing in a digital world and blurring the lines to mix marketing with media/PR, internal and external communication needs.

Your strong writing skills, along with your ability to understand clients’ needs, ask the right questions, decipher the insights, and read between the lines to deliver great client work make you a great all-rounder and asset to both clients and a growing consultancy.

You are at a stage in your career when you are comfortably balanced with work and home life so that you can put time and enthusiasm into nurturing both.

You’ll be confident and comfortable working with corporate and smaller clients, able to impress CEOs and build relationships with more junior marketing executives. Overall you’ll draw on your experiences and knowledge to cross-reference the attributes of both, to bring brilliant ideas and stretch the minds of both client and KPC.

What you’ll be doing

Your immediate priority will be your biggest client – KPC. To establish a strong, consistent and reliable marketing presence for KPC, attracting and inspiring our target audiences of CEOs in SMEs looking for support to grow their own businesses and improve their internal / external communication.

You will also be immersed with many of our other, largely B2B clients, bringing fresh ideas and results to their marketing, communication and business strategies. As a small, but growing consultancy, you’ll be working their end to end accounts, responsible for execution and accountable for results.

As a key member of a small team, and with accountability for KPC’s own marketing, you’ll be contributing to the development and success of KPC’s own products and services, with a firm hand on the direction of the company’s next chapter.

Where you will be

We are based in Farnham, Surrey. A small, town-centre, serviced office in a thriving market town. We have local and national clients, and travel locally (usually by car) and to London (60 mins by train) will be regular. You will be an essential member of the small team who are largely office based. Working alone is not unusual during holiday periods, while busy, chaotic office-life is usually wrought by client meetings or the few times a month there is a full house.

What are we looking for

Personal Qualities

  • You are a self-starter; someone who goes around blockages, keeps ploughing on and relishes the final results
  • You are questioning, of yourself and of others, with an eye to the bigger picture, to ensure we naturally keep asking ‘so what’?
  • You are a confident communicator; presenting to clients, managing a team, driving a company direction
  • You are a confident writer, able to pick up the pen for both corporate materials, articles and blogs and to set out your ideas in a presentation.
  • You bring a sense of humour and fun; a self awareness and emotional intelligence to bring people along with you, face up to challenges and build networks
  • You take responsibility for your work and decisions, and feel a real sense of ownership for KPC and what it delivers
  • You have a curiosity to learn and a determination to find out; always learning in our fast-paced, ever changing industry
  • You’ll be a solution-finder, a problem-solver; one of life’s radiators (rather than a drain) who brings and draws energy and excitement from working with other radiators

The Role

  • Account Direction - KPC
KPC will be your priority client. You will work and run this account, with clear objectives and measured targets, to build a consistent presence and inspiring offer to the right audience. Working alongside a (to be recruited) sales professional, you’ll ensure KPC is as much a well-oiled machine as our paying clients.
  • Account Direction – KPC Clients
You’ll be responsible for KPC’s growing client base. We are most comfortable with B2B clients, working at a senior (MD/CEO) level, with businesses that have a clear direction and strategy they need help to execute as well as articulate. We pay attention to internal communication as well as external, ensuring strategic decisions align with internal and external brand focus.

Our clients call on us to give their businesses a voice. Whether a digital strategy, a media push or traditional marketing tactics are required, we bring the best ideas to generate the best results. Often working with small budget, we have to be creative and practical with ideas. We can call on internal support for design, social output etc but our ideas are grounded in reality rather than large-scale campaigns.

You’ll be the account manager in some cases, with responsibility for client relationships as well as account delivery. You’ll also be intimately involved with other clients, bringing your ideas and in some cases an extra pair of hands, to their account delivery too.
  • KPC Team Member
As a key member of a small team, you’ll be working alongside less experienced people who will look to you for advice and direction, as well as support. An informal part of the role will be to help develop and nurture the team; as a team player you’ll recognise the need to bring people along with you, delegating both upwards and downwards as is required in a small team.

Experience & Skills

  • At least 6-8 years’ experience in a marketing role, either in-house or with an agency, preferably in a B2B environment
  • A formal qualification in a related field – e.g. Communications, Marketing, or Media Relations
  • First class writing skills covering a range of styles – e.g. proposals, presentations, copy, strategy, newsletters
  • Knowledge of media management and PR strategies, with the tenacity to formulate creative stories
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools – social media savvy, understand video potential!
  • Willingness to stay on top of the latest marketing trends and developments
  • An understanding of leadership communications is an advantage
  • Strong focus on delivery and exceptional customer service. Strong planning and organising skills
